About Me
Hi there.
First of all, thanks for visiting my blog. Please leave a comment or two, or seven, whenever you’d like! The more the merrier, I definitely read every comment!
So then, a bit about myself.
Summary: I’m Peter, 21. I was born in Melbourne, grew up, studied percussion at uni and am about to move to Japan for a while to teach English.
The long version:
I’m Peter, some of my friends call me Pete or Pierre, I really don’t mind what you call me.
I studied music at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, where I live, specifically, percussion. It was great fun and I’m really glad I did it. Yes, it is safe to assume that music is a hobby of mine! I said I live in Melbourne, but I’m actually about to move to Japan in a few months to work for a company called ECC. They are a chain English conversation school and have thousands of students throughout Japan. It should be quite an interesting adventure.
So, how did I end up at this point? Well, during my music studies at uni, I went to see a few taiko drumming concerts. Taiko is the Japanese word for drum, so as you can tell, a taiko concert is a Japanese drumming concert. Anyway, I loved all those concerts, and made the decision to go study it in Japan. I thought it was a great idea not just for the music, but also for the experience of living in a foreign country. So I thought about what I needed to do. I had to learn Japanese, and get an English teaching certificate. Technically, neither of these things were necessary, but they couldn’t hurt. So here I am two years later with a CELTA (an ESL certification), 2 years of self-taught Japanese and an English teaching job lined up in Japan! Nice!
Now, ironically, the teaching practice of the CELTA course was so great, that my focus totally shifted to ESL, and now the reason for my trip to Japan seems to be more ESL focused than music focused. Of course, I will pursue music as a hobby while I’m there. I will still get into taiko drumming, and who knows, maybe even shakuhachi (a Japanese flute).
Well, that’s where I am at this point in life… more as it comes!
Keep reading my blog for updates!
See you around!
